Five years after Super Storm Sandy, the region's most recent battle with nature, this all-day symposium explores storm preparation, recovery and moving forward.  Local residents, folklorists, historians, community planners and architects will share stories and memories of Superstorm Sandy and Hurricane's Irene, Gloria and Lee, among others. Director of Long Island Traditions Nancy Solomon, folklorist Naomi Sturm of Staten Island, folklorist Ellen McHale of the NY Folklore Society, and Karen Amspacher of the Core Sound Museum in North Carolina will facilitate a roundtable discussion with storm survivors from Upstate New York, North Carolina, Staten Island and Long Island on coping and rebuilding after Mother Nature’s wrath.  This program is free with regular museum admission.  Following the discussion, visit In Harm’s Way, on display in the Art Museum.

As we look back on the five years since Super Storm Sandy and into the future of Long Island's delicate coastline, Nancy Solomon, Director of Long Island Traditions will lead a guided tour of the In Harm's Way exhibition, featuring dramatic photographs, artifacts and video footage from some of the area's most notorious storms and how to prepare for the next big one.  Admission is free all day.
