A great museum doesn’t just happen. It’s built brick by brick, exhibit by exhibit, program by program. And a great museum can’t rely on trustees and staff alone – it is built on the support of its visitors, members and friends.
Through the generosity of a small group of visionaries to establish the museum, early donors initiated a spirited philanthropic tradition that has been carried on and strengthened by literally thousands of others since the museum’s inception in 1939.
Last year, individual contributions helped the museum touch the lives of more than 50,000 visitors and 12,000 students; lighting a creative spark for discovery and lifelong learning.
The Suffolk County Museum. The Museums at Stony Brook. The Long Island Museum of American Art, History and Carriages. We know it by different names; but supporters from every era are coming together like never before, offering their dedication, time and resources to shape this “national treasure.”
