Senior Tuesday

Seniors 62 and older will enjoy a free, self-guided tour of Long Road to Freedom:  Surviving Slavery on Long Island. The exhibition explores the impact slavery has had on Long Island's history and culture. Senior Tuesday is sponsored by Jefferson's Ferry.

Whitman Bicentennial Read-In and Curator’s Tour

We’re honoring Walt Whitman’s affinity for the diverse voices that “sing America” with this opportunity to listen to and participate in readings of Whitman poems—especially those which celebrate Long Island-- its flora, fauna and seascapes. Suffolk Poets Laureate Gladys Henderson and George Wallace will each read a Whitman poem, sharing why it’s meaningful to them. Homeschool Day

Children will tour the Walt Whitman’s Arcadia: Long Island Through the Eyes of a Poet & Painters exhibition and the historic Nassakeag one-room schoolhouse. Participants will learn about one of the nation’s most revered 19th century poets as well as the American landscape painting traditions of the same time period. Through hands-on activities in the gallery, schoolhouse and studio, children will have a chance to view paintings and try their hand at writing poetry and creating their own landscape compositions.…
