At Home Adventure Box – Virtual Museum Stories

July 28 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Tuesday, July 28 at 2:00 p.m – REGISTRATION IS FREE
Join us via Zoom for Virtual Museum Stories featuring a live visit from Newbery Medal winning author Karen Cushman

The LIM is thrilled to announce that we will be welcoming award-winning author Karen Cushman to our virtual museum-centered family book club. The featured book will be The Ballad of Lucy Whipple. It is generally recommended for readers in grades 4 through 7, but all with an interest are welcome! Read or listen to the book at home together and then join a museum educator for a themed exploration of paintings and objects in our collection, using the story as a springboard for discovery. The event will include a live visit from Karen Cushman who will answer questions and offer insights about the book, and her process and craft of writing. Registration is FREE, but very limited and will be taken on a first come, first served basis.

Please email lunander@longislandmuseum.org to reserve your family’s spot today. You will receive and email within 48 hours to confirm your spot or notify if you were put on a waiting list.

Want to continue the adventure off screen? Families are invited to purchase an At Home Adventure Box related to the themes and characters in this book. Through guided activities and stocked with all the supplies you need, this box will help create even deeper connections to the Long Island Museum’s collection in a fun and entertaining way! The cost is $20 for each box with supplies for one child; $25 for a box with supplies for two children in the same household. Kits will only be available by purchasing in advance and will be ready for pick up on site the week of July 20th. Once purchased you will be contacted to confirm pick up arrangements.
