Winner of the Panavision Showcase at the Syracuse International Film Festival, American Veteran tells the story of Army Sergeant Nick Mendes, who struck by an I.E.D. in Afghanistan in 2011 and left paralyzed from the neck down. Follow his harrowing journey from the V.A. hospital bed to the fully accessible home where he lives today with his wife Wendy, a medical caregiver he met in the hospital. Hosted by the Port Jefferson Documentary Series, the event includes guest speaker Julie Cohen, who directed the film. Tickets are $7 at the door.
