Teacher Workshop & Scholar Lecture from Ashley Hopkins-Benton

March 1 @ 9:00 am 2:00 pm

CALLING ALL TEACHERS!

In preparation for the upcoming Semiquincentennial, a celebration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, join us for a special free Teacher Training Workshop that will provide CTLE hours, in support of our two newest exhibitions on democracy in America: Voices and Votes and Building the Ballot Box.

This workshop will align the Voices and Votes exhibition content with New York State Learning Standards. Although this workshop is offered both virtually and in-person, we encourage teachers who can to attend in person for a more engaging experience and a chance to explore the exhibitions with museum staff. There will also be time to discuss how we can create a meaningful gallery visit for your students. Additionally, attendees will be awarded NYS Education Department Continuing Teacher and Leader Education Professional Development Credits.

The workshop can be attended as a full-day offering (9:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.) or as a morning or afternoon session. The morning session will consist of the teacher training and gallery exploration while the afternoon session will welcome Ashley Hopkins-Benton, Senior Historian and Curator, Social History at the New York State Museum to our program space. Hopkins-Benton will speak about the continued revolutions that New Yorkers have persisted in pursuing with her talk Marching Forward, Looking Back: New York and the Continued Fight for Equal Rights.
