The LIM in collaboration with Red Skies Music Ensemble presents this research-based program which weaves together an engaging narrative with live musical performance, theatrical cameos and large screen images to explore Whitman and Mount’s interconnected biographies and how music was an essential part of their creative lives. With music performance as the portal, the audience hears what is seen in Mount’s genre art and feels what is heard in the poetry of Whitman, a self-described “bard” of “songs”. Favorite tunes of Whitman are played as well as selections from Mount’s own musical manuscripts, illuminating how both artists responded to the soundscape and developing social transformations of their and in their mutual belief in the creative and democratizing power of music. There is a sing-along component within the program, and a Q&A with the audience concludes the immersive experience. $20 per person / $18 for seniors/ $15 for members and students.
