Meet the Artist – Brianna L. Hernández

Do not miss this amazing opportunity to meet one of the featured artists in SOMOS/WE ARE Latinx Artists of Long Island: Brianna L. Hernández! She will be speaking with Museum guests on Saturday, October 21st from 2 pm to 4 pm in the LIM Art Museum. Learn more about her creative process and how death influenced her living cemetery series. 

Brianna L. Hernández is a Chicana artist, curator, educator, and death doula. Her work focuses on end-of-life care, grieving processes, and mourning rituals based on lived experience, cultural research, and collaborations with peers. Hernández works in a variety of media including charcoal drawings, video art, and sculpture. Aquí Descansamos: The Fairy Garden and The Tamal, currently on view in SOMOS, use organic materials such as moss, banana leaves, and corn husks. 

Brianna proudly serves as Director of Curation and Board Secretary of Ma’s House & BIPOC Art Studio on the Shinnecock Indian Reservation in Southampton, New York, and Assistant Curator at the Parrish Art Museum in Watermill, NY. Additionally, she is the Board Treasurer at Walker’s Point Center for the Arts in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Committee Member for the Gente Chicana/SOYmos Chicanos Arts Fund of the Greater Milwaukee Foundation.
