Annual Winter Gala – November 2, 2024
Thank you to everyone who supported and contributed to making the 2024 LIM Winter Gala a dazzling success! We celebrated the Long Island Museum’s 85th anniversary with an unforgettable evening honoring world-renowned guitar maker John Monteleone. Guests enjoyed a delicious dinner catered by Bliss Restaurant, lively dancing to the music of Tom Manuel and The Jazz Loft All Stars, and festive cheer throughout the night. Attendees also got a head start on holiday shopping with our silent auction, with all proceeds going to support the Museum’s exhibitions and programming. It was truly a night of glamour, music, and celebration, and we are grateful to everyone who helped make it a remarkable evening!

About Our Honoree
John Monteleone
From his workshop in Islip, New York, John Monteleone has built a world-renowned reputation as a skilled luthier, known for his perfectionism and meticulous attention to materials. Monteleone’s guitars are unique masterpieces of functional art, crafted for leading rock, jazz, and folk guitarists of the late 20th and early 21st centuries, including Mark Knopfler, Eric Clapton, Julian Lage, Anthony Wilson, and Ben Harper.
Starting in the early 1970s as a repairer and maker of mandolins, Monteleone has embarked on an extraordinary journey as a craftsman, creating his signature guitars and other instruments. The Long Island Museum is honored to recognize John as this year’s Gala Honoree and to feature his gorgeous instruments in our Musical Masterworks exhibition, on view through October 13, 2024.
