Career Opportunities

Gallery Attendant + GA Leader and Visitor Services Substitute

Hours: Part-time/seasonal, February-December (annually) 

Schedule: Thursdays 11:15 am–7:15  pm; Fridays–Sundays 11:45 am–5:15 pm

Additional Hours: Some programs/events take place during evenings and weekends

Per-Hour Pay Rates:
Gallery Attendant: $17.00/hour
GA Leader: $19.00/hour
Visitor Services Sub: $19.00/hour

Position Description: Reporting to the Manager of Gallery Attendants & Site Safety, Gallery Attendants (GAs) are responsible for welcoming guests, responding to visitors’ questions, and offering guidance as needed. They monitor the safety and security of visitors, exhibition galleries, and collection items on view, and resolve general issues from guests and members on site. GAs are knowledgeable about current and upcoming exhibitions, educational and public programs, and fundraising and marketing campaigns, including general membership information. 

In addition to their GA duties, the successful candidate will be trained to serve as backup to both the Manager of Gallery Attendants & Site Safety and the Gift Shop & Visitor Services Manager. They must be willing to train and serve in this capacity in order to be eligible for hire and will receive a higher pay rate when performing these additional duties.

Requirements include: 

  • Exceptional customer service skills and experience.
  • Retail experience, including comfort with POS systems, cash handling, and credit card payments.
  • An interest in history and the visual arts.
  • While serving as Gallery Attendant Leader, they will be responsible for opening and closing the site, relieving GAs when they take breaks, overall site safety and security, and all other associated duties.
  • While serving as Visitor Services Substitute, they will be responsible for welcoming guests, opening and closing the register, all ticket and Gift Shop sales, and all other associated duties. 
  • Applicants must be a minimum of 18 years old.
  • Previous museum experience, foreign language skills, and CPR and First Aid certifications are strongly preferred but not required. 

Working Conditions: Gallery Attendants, GA Leader, and Visitor Services Sub mainly work indoors in climate-controlled galleries and are most often stationary on and/or traversing concrete and wooden floors for long periods of time, and may also be required to traverse the LIM’s nine-acre campus.
