FILM@LIM Matter of Mind: My Alzheimers

June 3 @ 7:00 pm

The Greater Port Jefferson Arts Council and the Long Island Museum have joined forces to bring films to our community that touch upon a variety of topics.

Matter of Mind: My Alzheimer’s, directed by Anna Moot-Levin and Laura Green, is an intimate portrayal of three families confronting the unique challenges of Alzheimer’s and how this progressive neurodegenerative disease transforms roles and relationships. Whether it’s a partner caring for a loved one or an adult child shifting into being their parents’ caregiver, these stories show how families evolve when a loved one is diagnosed.

After the film, join Lori Maldavir, Director of Program Outreach at the Alzheimer’s Association, Long Island Chapter, for a guided community conversation exploring key themes from the film—including the value of support, the importance of staying connected, and the evolving roles and experiences of care partners. There will be opportunities to meet staff from Stony Brook Center of Excellence for Alzheimer’s Disease, as well as Social Worker Sharon Reichman from the Alzheimer’s Disease Resource Center to gain care partner resources. Additionally, LIM Educators will offer a hands-on artmaking project for care partners to create and take respite.

Please Note: Due to its candid portrayal of Alzheimer’s disease, some viewers may find the film’s themes emotionally challenging. Viewer discretion is advised.
