FILM @ LIM: “The Social Network” Screening and Talk | FREE
August 7 @ 7:00 pm
The Port Jefferson Arts Council and the Long Island Museum have joined forces to bring films to our community that touch upon a variety of topics. This August, join us for a free screening of The Social Network (2010).
In 2003, Harvard undergrad and computer genius Mark Zuckerberg (Jesse Eisenberg) begins work on a new concept that eventually turned into the global social network known as Facebook. Six years later, he is one of the youngest billionaires ever, but Zuckerberg finds that his unprecedented success leads to both personal and legal complications when he ends up on the receiving end of two lawsuits, one involving his former friend (Andrew Garfield). Based on the book “The Accidental Billionaires.”
Following the screening, join us for a thought-provoking discussion about how both Aaron Sorkin’s The Social Network and F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby explore the excesses and pitfalls of the American Dream. The conversation will feature guest speakers Kelly DeVine, board member of the Port Jefferson Arts Council and lead programmer for the Port Jefferson Documentary Series, and Dr. Neisha Terry Young, professor at Stony Brook University
LOCATION
The screening and talk will take place in the Gillespie Room located in the Carriage Museum.
