FILM @ LIM “Don’t Call It Heimweh” and “Late Return” Screening and Talk | FREE
November 13 @ 5:00 pm
The Port Jefferson Arts Council and the Long Island Museum have joined forces to bring films to our community that touch upon a variety of topics. This November, join us for a free double-feature screening of Don’t Call It Heimweh (2004) and Late Return (2010) by Thomas Halaczinsky.
These two poignant documentaries follow German Jew Margot Friedländer’s harrowing escape from Nazi Germany after the murder of her entire family, her emigration to the U.S. in 1946, and her eventual return to Berlin, where she dedicated her later years to educating young people about the Holocaust.
Following the screening, join us for a fascinating discussion with the films’ director, Thomas Halaczinsky, about his personal connection to Margot after first meeting her in 2001 in a memoir writing class in New York City as she prepared to tell her story to the world at age 91.
LOCATION
The screening and talk will take place in the Gillespie Room located in the Carriage Museum.
The first film begins at 5:00 pm, followed by a short break with complimentary refreshments. The second screening will start at 7:00 pm.
REGISTRATION
This program is free, but registration is requested.
