Embracing the goal to enhance and support the rich artistic talent on Long Island, LIM has created a special membership opportunity for visual artists, LIMarts: a collaborative arts group.  Designed for artists dedicated to creating a forum within our cultural community, LIMarts offers space for the exhibition and sale of artwork, varied programming events, lectures and opportunities for social gathering with other artists and the public.  For information about becoming an LIMarts member, e-mail Alexandria D’Auria.

Artist of the Month

Alex Ferrone

The Long Island Museum and LIMarts are pleased to announce the May 2024 Artist of the Month: Alex Ferrone.

As a female self-taught fine art aerial photographer based on the North Fork of Long Island, Alex Ferrone’s photographs have been featured in solo and group exhibitions in galleries and museums in the United States, Italy, and Spain. Accolades for Ferrone’s work include a New York State Council on the Arts Grant, various international awards from prestigious photographic competitions, as well as a Travel Award to exhibit in Florence, Italy. Ferrone’s commercial and fine art photographs have been published widely in national print and in online magazines and journals. Alex Ferrone is also the Owner and Director of her eponymous art gallery in Cutchogue, NY, as well as an independent exhibition curator and juror for other arts organizations.

“As a fine art photographer, I have explored my environment from the unusual vantage point of photographing from a helicopter. Drawn to the unique compositions created from the flow of tides within large aqueous areas, my images present an uncommon perspective for the viewer. Not designed within the realm of digital alteration, my photographs disconnect observers from present technology as they contemplate the tranquility of nature while meditating on the forms, textures, and colors. It is my hope that from my photographs, a new appreciation for our fragile and precious ecological systems is created for the viewer as well.”- Alex Ferrone
