Cartoons of New York in the Revolution

Laugh and learn about some of the fascinating—and often surprising—events of the American Revolution in New York through the witty, satirical cartoons of the period. Explore how British and American artists used humor, caricature, and political satire to comment on the people, politics, conflicts, and controversies of the Revolution.
Join historian and author Sara Cedar Miller, historian emerita at Central Park Conservancy and author of Before Central Park, for an entertaining and insightful look at how these cartoons offer a unique window into the Revolutionary era. Discover the stories and personalities behind the images and see how humor became a powerful way to shape public opinion during a time of upheaval and change.
