Artist Spotlight: Durrell Hunter

Get a first look at some of the works created by Durrell Hunter, soon to be featured in “Enduring Heart: Native American Long Island,” and learn about how his Shinnecock heritage influences his art. 

Note: This program was previously scheduled to be in the gallery.  Due to exhibition schedule changes, the program will now be held in the Gillespie Room located in the Carriage Museum. 

Durrell is a Shinnecock fine artist from Long Island. His practice centers on preserving and uplifting the stories of his people through portraiture and landscape painting. Working primarily in acrylic, he creates intimate, narrative-driven works that document milestones within the Shinnecock Nation, focusing on the lived experiences of his generation.
