A Word Before Cars: Join an educator to learn about the history of transportation and the exciting vehicles in our Carriage Museum to understand why they were built and how they worked. Then, we will create an activity inspired by the horse-drawn vehicles in our art studio.
Children must be accompanied by an adult caregiver 18 years or older.

There will be a $5 materials fee payable at the door on the day of the workshop. Space is limited, so registration is required.

Capture the beauty of LIM’s gardens and grounds with an afternoon of painting en plein air! Find inspiration all around you, from the beauty of nature and the charm of our historic buildings to the creativity of our outdoor sculpture collection.
Painters of all ages and levels are invited. Bring your painting/drawing materials, or borrow some from us!

Once known as the “Potato Capital of the World,” Long Island has a rich history of potato farming dating back to the early 1800s. Join us for some hands-on historical learning about the delicious LI potato, including potato-themed crafts and games.
Join us in the Studio for a hands-on learning adventure! Try your hand at old-time chores like churning butter and discover what daily life was like in the past. You’ll also have the chance to explore a mini exhibition featuring historic farming tools and household objects from the Museum’s collection.
Please note that some activities will take place outdoors, which will be moved inside in the event of rain.

LIM and the Port Jefferson Arts Council bring films to our community that touch upon a variety of topics for FREE! Each film screening includes an engaging talk with a guest speaker or a fun activity this month, join us as we watch Felicity: An American Girl Adventure (2005)!
Based on the American Girl Doll Series of books, Felicity: An American Girl Adventure is a family-friendly film starring a young Shailene Woodley, which follows Felicity Merriman in this coming-of-age story set against the backdrop of the impending American Revolution.
Ten-year-old Felicity Merriman is growing up in Williamsburg, Virginia, just before the American Revolution. High-spirited and independent, Felicity decides to tame a wild horse owned by an abusive leather maker/tanner, Jiggy Nye. Even though her parents Martha and Edward forbid her, she runs off to be with the horse, whom she names Penny. She eventually tames Penny and the two become fast friends. Meanwhile, tension grows between the colonists. Some, including Edward and his apprentice Ben Davidson, wish for independence from King George III of England. After the screening, join us for a fun discussion about Revolutionary War-era fashion with Sheila C. Argueta.
Sheila recently graduated summa cum laude from Stony Brook University with a B.A. in History and a minor in Studio Art, earning the university’s Valedictorian Award. Her research interests include material culture, labor history, and historical dress, with a particular focus on how clothing communicates identity and reflects broader social, cultural, and historical change.
