Accessibility

The Long Island Museum is committed to creating a warm, inclusive environment for every visitor. We believe that art, history, and culture should be accessible and engaging for all.

Discounted Admission

Individuals with disabilities receive a discounted admission of $5. Personal care assistants accompanying adult visitors with disabilities are admitted free of charge.

Parking

Our 9-acre campus is divided by Route 25A, with exhibition buildings on both sides. Tickets can be purchased at the Visitors Center inside the History Museum, located on the West side of the street. The Carriage and Art Museums are located on the East side of campus. Accessible parking is available on both sides of Route 25A near each exhibition building. See Map

Mobility Accessibility

Our main exhibition buildings—History Museum, Carriage Museum, and Art Museum—are wheelchair accessible. A wheelchair is available upon request on a first-come, first-served basis for use within each building.

Benches and seating are located throughout the museum galleries and gardens.

Accessible restrooms are located in the Carriage Museum. Due to the age of the building, restrooms in the History Museum may accommodate older, non-motorized wheelchairs but may be too narrow for wider or motorized models.

Please note that our historic structures (e.g. barn and schoolhouse) may have steps or narrow entrances that do not accommodate wheelchairs or other mobility devices.

Vision Accessibility

Please note that lighting in the galleries may be dimmed to better preserve the objects and art on view.

Hearing Accessibility

All exhibition videos with voice audio include open captions.

Service Animals

All ADA Title III service animals are welcome. A Title III service animal is defined as a dog trained to perform specific tasks for an individual with a disability. Pets, emotional support animals, therapy animals, or animals whose function is to comfort do not qualify as service animals under the ADA and are not permitted on-site. Service animals must be declared upon entry. Handlers are solely responsible for the care and control of their service animal, which must remain on-leash at all times. All animals must be house-trained and cleaned up after.
