Registration for the Colors of Long Island Student Artwork Exhibition is now closed.  If you did not register your students, we will have an open call next fall for the 2024 exhibition. Feel free to email us at art@longislandmuseum.org to make sure we have you on our mailing list.

Teachers who have registered, please continue below for important information:

If you have registered for this year’s exhibition, the next step is to submit your students’ artwork.

Below is the drop off process.  If you have already mailed your student work, please disregard steps 1 – 5 and continue to step 6.

  1. Labeling Artwork: We sent a confirmation email with a blank artwork label for you to fill out, print and attach to the back of your student pieces. If you didn’t receive this email, please contact us at art@longislandmuseum.org. Please DO NOT label the FRONT of your students’ artwork. We will be printing and mounting museum gallery labels that will be installed on the walls with your students’ work. If you are unable to print the back-of-artwork label attached here, please label the back of each submitted piece clearly with the following information:

    • School name

    • Teacher name

    • Student name

    • Artwork title

  1. Please note the directionality of the artwork on the back label or somewhere on the back of each piece.

  2. Mounting Artwork: All art should be ready to hang/install by the Long Island Museum. Please note that paper-mounted works will be stapled to gallery walls, so you may want to mount them on a larger sheet of paper as backing; all other hanging items should have appropriate mounting hooks, hardware and/or wire attached. We cannot accept works with self-adhesive mounting hooks, as they fall from the gallery walls. Artworks can be no larger than 36” in any one direction.

  1. Shipping Artwork: Shipped artworks must be received by the museum by January 31, 2023. will mail out your contract and materials once I have cataloged all the mailed work.

Receptions: In lieu of receptions for this year’s exhibition, each of your students will be given an admission pass that will allow them to visit the exhibition & museum, along with four guests, free of charge. Students will be able to visit as many times as they like while the exhibition is on view, with up to four guests each visit. If more than four guests attend the museum with the student on a single visit, these guests will be asked to pay museum admission. The museum always extends free admission to teachers and school staff from exhibiting schools; you may receive free admission during the exhibition’s run by showing your school ID.

Students can use admission passes on all dates that the museum is open to the public:

To enter, students can fill out and bring their form when they visit to hand in at the admission desk. We will choose three winners and hand their prizes out with their artwork when teachers come for artwork pickup (or when it is mailed back.)
